TASKS AND ACTIVITIES

Specialists in the air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating career field install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating equipment for residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Specific tasks typically required of a technician in the air conditioning, refrigeration and heating field include:

Maintaining, diagnosing, and correcting problems throughout the entire system;

• Adjusting system controls to recommended settings and testing the performance of the entire system using special tools and test equipment;

• Following blueprints or other specifications to install oil, gas, electric, solid-fuel, multiple-fuel heating systems; motors, compressors, condensing units, evaporators, and piping;

• Connecting electrical wiring and controls and checking the unit for proper operation;

• Installing and servicing central air conditioning systems and a variety of refrigeration equipment.

• Connecting equipment to duct work, refrigerant lines, and electrical power source;

• Interacting with customers to answer questions, provide recommendations and invoice for services.
